2D Backward Stochastic Navier-Stokes Equations with Nonlinear Forcing

The paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of a strong solution to a two-dimensional backward stochastic Navier-Stokes equation with nonlinear forcing, driven by a Brownian motion. We use the spectral approximation and the truncation and variational techniques. The methodology features an interactive analysis on basis of the regularity of the deterministic Navier-Stokes dynamics and the stochastic properties of the It\^o-type diffusion processes

A unified approach to blending of constant and varying parametric surfaces with curvature continuity

In this paper, we develop a new approach to blending of constant and varying parametric surfaces with curvature continuity. We propose a new mathematical model consisting of a vector-valued sixth-order partial differential equation (PDE) and time-dependent blending boundary constraints, and develop an approximate analytical solution of the mathematical model. The good accuracy and high computational efficiency are demonstrated by comparing the new approximate analytical solution with the corresponding accurate closed form solution. We also investigate the influence of the second partial derivatives on the continuity at trimlines, and apply the new approximate analytical solution in blending of constant and varying parametric surfaces with curvature continuit

Medium effects on the selection of sequences folding into stable proteins in a simple model

We study the medium effects on the selection of sequences in protein folding by taking account of the surface potential in HP-model. Our analysis on the proportion of H and P monomers in the sequences gives a direct interpretation that the lowly designable structures possess small average gap. The numerical calculation by means of our model exhibits that the surface potential enhances the average gap of highly designable structures. It also shows that a most stable structure may be no longer the most stable one if the medium parameters changed.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Ventilation Potential Assessments for Residential Building Arrangements Based on Exceedance Probability Analysis

    Get PDF
In this study, the building ventilation potentials were assessed at building group level. Exceedance probability analysis was applied to estimate the uncertainties associated with the influence of climate on wind environment. The criterion was proposed based on building facade pressures. Tw o typical residential building arrangements were investigated. Simulation results show that facade pressure based exceedance probability are efficient in assessing the natural ventilation potentials of building groups and building height variations are important for improving building natural ventilation potentials
